This enjoyably canny thriller is kind of Freeway meets Shadow of a Doubt. Pepper Zero, I give this audiobook five stars. And yes, I wept, okay? Though I’d really love to know what Green thinks of the newly released Dr. Also: Have you ever sung along with an audiobook? There’s a moment when Green asks you to join him in singing the war anthem “We’re Here Because We’re Here.” I sang along, alone, outside, just me and John Green. Pepper (his beverage of choice) are very moving, not to mention emotionally, historically and intellectually perceptive. However, his personal ruminations on such things as The Great Gatsby, sunsets, and Diet Dr. Recognizing that our whole culture circles around the concept of “reviewing” (note the purpose of this column), Green waxes and wanes on several random topics, eventually giving them starred reviews on a scale of one to five. Work your way through these, then hit up the Good Housekeeping Book Club for even more feel-good favorites.The conceit of this essay collection from the star YA author can sound like a bit much. The one thing they have in common is that all of them are positively captivating. Some of our favorites are recorded with big-name casts full of voices you may recognize, others are just the author or a voice actor sharing the work some are brand-new, others are classic literary texts reinvigorated through your headphones. The next time you find yourself in need of a creative way to pass the time, break out one of these best audiobooks of all time. Some people also process information better by listening rather than visually. Audiobooks are ideal for a hands-free reading experience: when you can't get a seat on a crowded commuter train or to make the drive to work go faster, to help the miles fly by on family road trips when you need to keep everyone in the car occupied (and not fighting with each other) or while you're doing chores, preparing dinner or otherwise just have your hands occupied. While we'll never give up the pleasure of cracking the spine and turning the pages of a great new book, the audio version fits a particular niche.
